SUMMARY

The value of a European Research Infrastructure for micro and nano fabrication and characterization has been shown during the current funding period of EUMINAfab. Considerable investment in both time and money has led to the creation of a significant level of integration and an efficient operating procedure which benefits users from both academia and industry. A consolidated dissemination campaign has led to an increase in the awareness of the opportunity of open access to the facilities.

EUMINAfab aims to remain unique but does not intend to be exclusive. As such we would like to widen our partnership by integrating additional partners with a compatible approach and complementary skills.

The imaginative concept of a hub for SME's enabling them to act as both technology provider and user aims to create a fluid environment for innovation.

The future potential of EUMINAfab lies in the established niche of a functional solution provider, specializing in the design and creation of nano and micro structured components and structures serving a multitude of different application areas. The benefits to Europe lie not only in the direct results of user access, but also in that the significant financial investment in equipment and personnel held in leading research infrastructure partners grows in application relevance to the user communities.

The potential of EUMINAfab as a European Research Infrastructure stimulating future and emerging technologies to further develop and serve an expanding user community is dependent on the funding environment in which we operate.

This document is intended to stimulate discussion on the need, form and scope of a European Research Infrastructure for micro and nano fabrication and characterization. The response and contribution of stakeholders is warmly welcomed.
